Description

OK - Remember that image I posted that took 13 hours to get to 37%? Here's essentially the same image - just a little different pose and camera angle. This was done with DS 4.11 Beta, which works with the hella-spensive RTX 2080ti GPU. The image is 3840 X 2160 UHD. This render took slightly over 4 hours to get to 100%. Beats the snot out of the last time... I've uploaded the full-size image. I used a distant light for the sunlight streaming in the windows, and two spots inside the room. The only things I did in Photoshop was add the photo outside the window, and my watermark. I'll be doing more experimenting with DAZ, but again, I've not abandoned Poser, especially for the T.N.A. story. It's another tool in the box of goodies! Thanks for putting up with 2 uploads tonight! Outstanding image and information. Nice to see that DS did this job right. Have you considered doing the same image in Poser and see how long it takes there?

Her and Niki love showing off their place. Love the decor and outfit she has. Logesr render so far 4 me is about an hour at 5000 dpi. Most are within 20-30 min. Cool info.

Wish u were here to show me how to use daz my friend.

Damn ! you're patient or maybe you took a shower, had one or two cups of coffee, some shots of pure malt whisky while it was rendered ! But it's a good image and the text on the Tshirt is priceless

Not sure about 'patient' - more like 'brain fry' πŸ˜† But yeah, the Keurig gets a workout during those Poser / DAZ / Vue / Photoshop sessions...

Very nice work, and hey, it's better when the gpu is in use, isn't it ? ;) . Great improvement over the 1st one, but still remember you can cut down render time by 3 or 4 times with different render settings/lighting options. A hdri replacing the distant light, and one or two mesh light panels instead of the spots, will take lots of tests to fine tune, but in the end it will be much faster. I can send my "custom" mesh panels if you want to try ;) , I think they're on my Dropbox. One not-so-elegant-but-very effective method is to hide the ceiling too, when interior scenes are taking too long. And remember, generally you don't need to reach 100% to have a ready to post picture; even in photographs, there is noise in some areas, like out-of-focus blur, or shadows, so you don't need to have blur-free shadows in a render I think. It depends of a lot of factors, lighting, render settings etc, but generally I stop mine at 85%, and rather often less, 80%, even 65% sometimes.

Yeah, even that first example looked pretty decent at only 37%. When I was messing with DAZ on the laptop (after 4.9 first came out), I'd frequently stop a render at 70 - 90%, and it looked perfectly fine. I was just curious to see how long it would take to complete. It sure makes a difference having the GPU (with all those CUDA cores) doing the grunt work! 😁

Much improved! I keep trying to find ways to light interiors without much luck. With my antique graphics card, most solutions are not really any help. Glad you are finding ways to make DS work for you.

I'm still chugging away with my steam powered 780ti. Anything bigger will have to wait till I can afford a new pc.

One thing about Daz render times. A lot of that is simply meshs and textures that are far more high resolution than they need to be. Sure HD figure meshes look nice, but the same thing can be done for cheaper using normal maps. Most of the time even 2K and 4K textures are not usually necessary. You don't typically need a thread fiber count for a t-shirt. Look at most modern games. They can use photoreal rendering engines as well, and render from 30-60 FPS or more depending on special effects. That's because the engines are optomised (Daz version of Iray isn't really) and the meshes and textures are optimized and well thought out. A 4 hour Iray render should rarely happen on a current card.
