Vany And The Cardinal by KatesFriend

I was really hoping to have a test rendering from my Vue installation by now. However, the actual re-installation has gone sideways three times thus far. This is mostly due to the diabolical licencing mechanism e-on software deploys – serial and activation codes et al. My version of Vue is rather ancient and e-on's view on Vue appears to be that I should not be allowed to continue using it. I persevere nevertheless. I will defeat Moose and Squirrel. That being said, the lovely Vany was kind enough to volunteer for another white room rendering. I'm still missing some of my sets on the Poser side of things. Somehow a cardinal few into the scene and stole the show. Though Vany doesn't seem to mind. Easy enough, right? Then I became too clever by half – always my downfall. Wouldn't a rainbow look nice?1 It can't be that hard, I assured myself. But how to do it? Vue has a built in rainbow effect but Poser does not. My first thought was to create it out of light. Setup parallel spot lights (red, green and blue) high above and behind Vany and aim them each at separate points near her feet. Use volume atmosphere effects to make their beams visible. It will look great! It didn't- OH, FUDDLE-DUDDLE AND CHOCOLATE FUDGE SUNDAES! I spent about four days solving the rainbow problem. And then another three days developing a rather lengthy explanation as to why one would never want to create a rainbow within a Poser image ever again. It still reads like word salad. I can invent whole fictional worlds at a faster pace. The tome outlined the thirtysomething2 different ways I tried to make the magic happen. By the way, nothing is brighter than white. There were several passes with GIMP and re-rendering in Poser with the auxiliary render data enabled. Actually, not so much an explanation than an odyssey. A journey that invoked such witty expositions as 'Lesson Number First',3'Alas, Poser should have included general relativistic effects in the Cloth room for bending light as well as fabrics' and 'Canada's perennial placement at the Summer Olympics'.4 But my personal favourite continues to be, 'The results suggested that Vany was being attacked by hippy aliens using their dreaded flower power ray – yes, I'm that old'. Imagine my despair when I beheld that scene. To think, this effort was my 'distraction' while I recovered from the confrontation with Vue licensing. And now, I get to shovel more snow. Sorry, no nudity. Unless you count the cardinal
Notes: 1I still have dreams of creating a faux Smarties ad someday. 2Uhhhhhgg! I sooooo hate that show! Forerunner to all the character driven BS which I have to wade through these days.53Okay, I ripped that off from 'Strangers With Candy'.6 Though in my case, I wasn't proposing to dig up a corpse. 4Fourth. 5And ABC cancelled 'Max Headroom' to make room for that naval gazing bottle of saccharin7 - cretins.86Sometimes referred as 'Stranglers With Cancer' because Jerri is not much of a reader. 'Can we change?' 7I am definitely a wannabe alumni of the Robert Holmes school of writing.98Cretin: A stupid person. See all characters featured on 'thirtysomething'.109I'm talking 'The Brain Of Morbius' type sarcasm. #DoctorWho 10And yet they all seem to have better jobs and more money than I will ever have.1111For a more complete story of the Cretin, why not contact the Canadian Wildlife Service?... in Ottawa.

Beautifully composed Clayton.

Wonderful job! You are far more persistent than Me. I would have taken a crayon to the screen long before that. I know what you mean about having to reload an older piece of software. I have a graphics program called Canvas X and it is controlled by the activation code nonsense. The laptop I installed it on died and it won't work on the newer computer without the A/C which can't be obtained any more.

I gave up on Vue ages ago. Actually purchased a license for some of their content, and when the next version of Vue came out, those items would require a repurchase of a license for them to use them the way I wanted...no way was I going to get into that trap, so it was bye, bye Vue...Nice scene. Does look like you managed to get some semblance of a rainbow going :)

A most delightful 'vue' of Vany and her little red buddy!
I have Vue 10 Complete on this machine, and while it works fine, I'm thinking about installing it on my dual-processor machine. We'll see what happens, I guess. I was going to upgrade, but E-on has sadly gone to a subscription only version of Vue. The "Creator" version is $25.00 per month. Never mind the "Pro" version.. Not gonna happen. I already have Adobe and MS Office subs - can't do another one. I may have to look into Terragen or something similar for landscapes.
