Located on Kudos a remote and distant planet whose surface is littered with purified exotic and rare minerals, The Organization of Known Worlds protects its "find" with a network of mainly underground bases connected to Kudos Watch Towers spread out on the surface. These are guidance stations in which controllers observe and advise DragonFire fighters which have both atmospheric and orbital capabilities. The planets has an extremely radioactive, corrosive and poisonous atmosphere so both the towers themselves and the transport for Tower Operators is through a crystalline "Crysteel" tube system. Operators face 10 plus minutes in the transport pods at a constant acceleration of 7Gs reaching speeds of 39,000 mph at the transition point (where their safe deacceleration begins ... They reach their assigned towers each which is approximately 3,200 miles from the base. They then ascend to their observation platform either via a lift or if it's now functional, by climbing 3 to 5 stories of ladder rungs.
