Well for those who like to know more about me this is it. My real name is Ed van Dalen. I live in the Netherlands, in Rotterdam to be precise. I was born in 1962 in that same city. This site (Renderosity) is a great place to be and I enjoy being here very much. A little explanation for the picture. Someone at the site gave me the idea for this logo when he linked my name with the name of the rockband Van Halen.  There is a resemblance with their logo but I gave it my personal twist with the mouse in the rings to make the connection to computer art.
BIO
As I told in the intro I'm dutch. I work as a service mechanic for 21 years now and since recently as a freelance digital artist. I am not a die hard computer artist because I started only about a year ago with this kind of art. I have been painting pin-ups for a lot of years until I visited a bookmarket where I found a book about 3d digital rendered figures. From then on I was hooked. It took until May this year (2005) before I had the nerve to post my first image. I'm glad I did though cause since then I got to know a lot of wonderful people who gave me the confidence to carry on with my art. This site has made my world so much bigger and I thank everyone who comes and visit it.

Nice work and render...

Superb

With the crispness and clarity of the render, the richness of the textures and color, the natural limb articulation and expression, the subtle and skillful lighting, would it not be an interesting experiment to make the exact same image in Poser for a side-by-side comparison and see if the struggle is worthwhile?
twingo
Thanks for the comment, Daz really is a very unfriendly program to work with but I like the new gen 8 figures. I wish they could make them work in Poser. Poser works a lot faster and I will keep using it. Making the same image in poser will be possible but I would have to use other figures, props and lights.

..great pose and excellent skin texture

First render, seriously? This is awesome. Once you got the hang of daz studio, its not so difficult anymore and the Iray renders are so great. Amazing image and scene, well done :)

I totally share your point, DS is pain in the a** not intuitive at all and to answer Rtesian question, Superfly is as good as Iray when it comes to render images and much faster. BUT BUT...this first render is a masterpiece ; this lady is incredible...she's alive. Did she work in some old Nevada Casino ? far from Las Vegas and Reno ???
twingo
I think she used to work in a dutch casino, maybe I dated her once.... You are so right about Daz, it really is a pain to be going back and forth between all the tools and settings. Very time consuming a no fun at all.
RodS
You really did an outstanding job on her, my friend! You're doing well with DS.
I've also started working (playing) with DAZ - but it's an addition, not a replacement. I have no plans to stop using Poser. I have both PP2014 and PP-11. I use Poser for the really complex renders - like the T.N.A. series, and it's still my main go-to. I do like what Iray does, but I can still get some pretty decent results with PP2014. Nothing wrong with using both.

Same here, I will keep using Poser just because of how easy it is to use. Daz really gives great render results but poser will stay my favorite.

The term "classy" has just gotten a completely new dimension to it!
As for the Poser / DAZ thing: I used Poser 4.3 Pro (some 15 or so years ago), then went over to Cinema 4D, then took a huge break and came back with ZBrush (mainly for my work) and DAZ Studio (cause it's free (yay). First steps in D|S were a pain in the butt (still nothing compared to first steps in ZBrush, the UI they have there is the devil), and I am 100% certain that my first renders with D|S were not anywhere close to what you just created here, but I'll be damned, I like D|S with all the sometimes awkward menues. I have no clue though how Poser changed over the last decade, so I can't really compare.
Apart from that: man this image rocks on all levels! Kudos to you, Ed!

Incredible image! Like you, I think the Genesis 8 female characters look very attractive, but unlike you I have not been able to work comfortably in Daz Studio; everything is so different and cumbersome when you are used to Poser, and the render times seem incredibly long, even for simple scenes. Congratulations on making the transfer successfully. How long did this image take to render?
twingo
Sorry for the late reply. The render took about 17 hours on a 8 core 4000 mhz machine, so yeah the render time is killing. Thanks for your comment.

Beautiful

For a first-time DS render, you have MASTERED the program! This image is every bit of incredible and I am in awe of your skill with it. I too am not comfortable with the Studio interface, but I want to learn how to use it effectively in order to expand my horizons artistically. You inspired me!

You really did an outstanding job on this elder lady, who must have more or less my age!!!! (I love my DAZ-Studio)
