Description
The title of this work is a line from "Goblin Market", a narrative poem by Christina Rosetti (sister of the famous pre-Raphaelite painter D.G. Rosetti). Ambiguous in its content, it has been variously interpreted, and doubtless mis-interpreted, over the years. Rosetti herself on different occasions said both that it wasn't intended for children, and that it was. Nonetheless it remains a fairytale at heart, about two sisters (Laura and Lizzie) who, fetching water from a brook in the evening, are tempted to eat the fruit offered by goblin merchants they hear calling out of the dusk.
"Evening by evening
Among the brookside rushes,
Laura bow’d her head to hear..."
One evening, Laura waited behind after Lizze returned to the house, unable to resist the temptation. I shan't divulge what ensued thereafter (there will be more illustrations of the poem in due course).
DS3 as usual, no postwork. In deference to the pre-Raphaelite connection, I have modded the mats for the gown (Val3dart "Princess Alex") using an appropriate period design by Wiilliam Morris.
