It was like nothing they had ever seen before. Almost like a toy, certainly as fragile. Yet curiously elegant, conceived by a different kind of mind. A surreal monument to a bygone era of space travel? An era when they themselves were primitive, limited and just as fragile. A time when the stars were more blue, more hot. A time even they have almost forgotten. Who would come to the middle of nowhere in such an ephemeral, obsolete machine?
And more and more of their ken descended. Their great ships gathering and bobbing in the soup like atmosphere. Each more different than the other but all awesome in power. They too had heard the chatter, the rumour of something new, something strange, something irrational found in a place where no one, no thing should be.
