Description

It seems as if my last post occurred more than a lifetime ago. It certainly occurred in a place I wish to never return to. I can say that I’ve lived in Berwyn, Illinois, I survived—at great emotional/romantic costs—and got out. I now know that there is a place called Berwyn, Illinois. It is in my past, and hopefully it will fade into the mists of oblivion, as a footnote in my life rather than a living part of history. Since leaving that place and situation, I’ve been unable to write or photograph, but things are turning the corner now. I’m back in Chicago, living with my family (not an ideal situation by a longshot!) and saving money for my eventual (sooner rather than later) return to Prague. If all goes as I wish, I’ll move to Prague, permanently and thus not even share a continent with Berwyn, Illinois. In honor of my escape from that place, I spent time reconstructing things with Corey and in doing so, we crossed a familiar bridge. The North Branch of the Chicago River was frozen solid, but the very surface was beginning to show signs of melting. I loved the play of reflections, shadows, and light…I loved the amoebic shape of liquid water. I loved the sense of constancy that only a frozen river can present. Things aren’t perfect, but Berwyn, Illinois is behind me, Prague is in front of me, and I’m taking photographs again. As usual, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and it’s nice to re-establish a pattern to live that existed before things were warped and distorted by the Berwyn Vortex…perhaps in Prague, I’ll be able to look back and write about that strange, dark time. But in the meantime, here’s a bit of reflected light, shadow, and fresh (well, not muddy) water.

Always happy to see a post from you, Chip. A quick glance gives the impression of an image taken from high up. I thought “Chip has got himself a drone.” Another unique and stunning image. Glad to hear you are doing well.

So, Prague? What will you do when you get there? Open a Café Americaine (Chicago hot dogs, deep dish pizza)? Or perhaps a museum titled Berwyn House of Horrors? Let us know how you are getting on.

So glad to hear from you again Chip. Many of us in the community have missed you. I was overjoyed to see your posting appear in my ebots this evening. I don't know Berwyn, but if its anything like Windsor, Ontario of the 90's and my darkest days I think I will stay clear.

And this is a splendid and hopeful image. Reflective of the mercurial changing of the seasons. Though cold, grey and seemingly lifeless on the outside there is a warm light that is rebuilding from within. I would say you have reclaimed your eye for the natural world.

I hope there will be more like this in the happier times to come.

Prague is far more interesting than Berwyn (I'm here in the Chicagoland too), but in the end it's people that make a place. I seem to remember that Prague has important people for you and I hope you can go there soon! I love that this post is slightly mind-bending :D
