Your Dragon Slayer looks as though he has appeared out of thin air. If he were in this frozen hell you've depicted, he'd have ice on his cloak and shoulders. He'd also have his head covered or ice would form there as well. Another thing, your only defense against the dragon would be to thrust or stab at him with the sword or lance. The slayer holds his sword as if he can swing at the beast, which would most likely get him killed. The art is good and I can tell you've spent a lot of time with the atmospherics. Now, how do they affect the man in the image?

Ignore gogoman.... we all know that he had to throw off his riding cloak or face the possibility of getting his sword arm caught up in it! Great job btw. :)

Stunning work..but i have to say the slayer does not do justice to the awesome dragon here! he looks too washed out and almost stuck on as an after thought...also he does not appear dynamic enough for the rest of the piece...damn sure if i had that big scaly beast infront of me i would look a tad more animated than he does right now ROFL!! But having said that its only a minor niggle in a truly stunning piece of work...awesome

fantastic work! All the elements combine together perfectly. I would buy this book based ont he cvover, if I ever saw it on a shelf at the store. Gogoman..heros are not affected by such things in fantasy, unless it is there for atmosphere. Look at Conan, many adventures brought him to frozen wastelands in not more then a loin cloth. Great work on this image!

As I understood after reading what you said, is that you wern't sure if you were finished yet. What I see here is Absolutely Awesome and if I were the one doing this piece, I would be a whole lot proud of what has been done right now.... You get my Vote.... ~ JLM ~

Gogman, Gorodin is drawing this idea from a "real" book called the Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams. There is a scene in the book where a castle scullion is drawn into adventure and finds himself facing off against a White Dragon with the recovered sword of his now dead king. He hardly knows one end of the sword from the other, let alone how to face off against a dragon. I think that Gorodin has done a great job of illustrating that inexperience in this image. The book is old (1988) but a good read nontheless.

Strangely enough I have just re read the whole memory sorrow and thorn saga, and I feel this would be better cover art then some of the images that have been used. And by golly has the book been out that long, I have signed copies of the last two parts and it didn't seem that long ago.

Nice Image!! I hand craft lots of dragons of all sizes so it is interesting to see how people depict them. The early version of this actually inspired me to make a center table.(with the position of the dragon). Very nice work!!

very excellent work. i've admired the image at all it's stages. i do kind of have to agree a bit with gogoman though. whereas the dragon is just about an avalanche in itself, and you can tell that it's moving, it almost seems like the Dragon Slayer just appeared. and i don't know about him, but if there was a dragon rushing me, i wouldn't be charging it as well, i would be ready to jump out of the way and try to get a good mark in as he passed. maybe the movement of the dragon is enough, and now we need some anticipated movement with the slayer. i'm not quite sure the dragon's face is 'angry' enough. he almost looks puppy-ish, like "i wanna play". but that's my humble opinion.
