It looks like a seed holder (like a miniature cone, which I know is a seed-carrier). Maybe it's just a branch....but whatever it is, it's one of your classical minimalist nature-shadow shots, and it's splendid. I love these shots. Your light is perfect---bleached, flat, and it creates great shadows. To counter the bleached light, you captured terrific gravel and texture, all fussy and crammed together. The little stalk is the "punctuation mark," and it's perfect. Minimal, but filled with detail. I love it. I never tire of this series; and this, like so many other of your pics, deserves a lot more comments than you got. People are asleep here, I swear...
