Description

Le château de Noirmoutier est un château fort situé sur l'Île de Noirmoutier dans le département de la Vendée. Il domine la ville de Noirmoutier-en-l'Île de son donjon haut de près de 20 mètres. Ce château qui est, avec l'église voisine, tout ce qui reste de l'abbaye de Noirmoutier, témoigne de l'architecture médiévale du XIIe siècle. Château de Noirmoutier is a fortified castle located on the Island of Noirmoutier in the department of Vendée. It overlooks the town of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île from its nearly 20-metre-high keep. This castle, which, together with the neighbouring church, is all that remains of the abbey of Noirmoutier, bears witness to the medieval architecture of the 12th century.

Nice series of photographs of this castle. The size of the walls and their thickness suggest they had powerful enemies, or were located in a strategic place. A wonderful example of medieval defensive architecture. Keep up the good work! :-)
