Description
The beautiful Olwen was the daughter of Ysbaddaden, the king of the giants. It was foretold that if she were ever to wed, he would die, so when Culhwch came to seek her hand, Ysbaddaden wasnt exactly receptive, and set the hero a series of impossible tasks to perform as a condition.
The story is told in the 11th century Welsh tale, "Culhwch ac Olwen", the earliest known story of King Arthur (Culhwch was his cousin) and is included in modern versions of the Mabinogion, though strictly not one of its four branches.
