Description

Le château est construit sur la demande de Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette (1554-1642), fait premier duc d'Épernon. Archétype du Gascon orgueilleux, fier et bagarreur, ce château incarne la toute-puissance de ce cadet de Gascogne, devenu l'un des mignons du roi Henri III, qualifié de «Demi-Roi», et amassant honneurs et richesses avant de mourir en disgrâce à 88 ans sous le règne de Louis XIII, à qui il fournit des gardes pour fonder la première compagnie des mousquetaires en 1622. The castle was built at the request of Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette (1554-1642), the first Duke of Epernon. Archetype of the proud, proud and fighting Gascon, this castle embodies the omnipotence of this youngest of Gascony, who became one of the cute little ones of King Henry III, described as "Half King", and amassed honours and wealth before dying in disgrace at the age of 88 under the reign of Louis XIII, to whom he provided guards to found the first musketeers' company in 1622.
