It was heartbreaking watching that iconic spire fall.. The beams the formed the structure of the roof were trees that were cut in the 1200s.. So much irreplaceable history gone. God knows how much priceless artwork was destroyed.

I hope I live long enough to see it rebuilt. It was a tragic thing to watch it burn.

Thank you so much for your image and your words ; even if you're not a religious person, like me, you are so sad and we, French people, feel like we had lost more than a treasure, a part of our country. It will be rebuilt.

It's a great loss.

This is such awful, dreadful news. To think how much this magnificent architectural marvel has survived, who would have dreamed that this would be the cathedral's destiny. Fortunately many valuable artefacts/religious articles had been removed even before the restoration project commenced, and while there was a raging fire, firemen were able to rescue many important items such as the relics....so not all is lost. The bell towers were not damaged and apparently most of the stained-glass windows, such as the Rose Windows, have survived. Notre Dame is a World Heritage site, so I am confident that the rebuilding will commence in short order. I hope that wooden parts that have been partially destroyed are reused to build perhaps small alters, etc. I am so grateful that I have been fortunate enough to have visited her.

Heartbreaking. I sat stunned watching it yesterday. So much was lost and it makes me sad. However, some was saved and President Emmanuel Macron is determined to rebuild.

I couldn't bear to watch what happened to Notre Dame. To me, it would have been like watching World Trade Center fall again. The spires were a great loss, but I hope they can save as many of the artifacts within as possible. The great cathedral shall be renewed!

Such a tragedy!! I cried a lot, yesterday!
but almost $800 Million has been pledged to reconstruct it.
And they've found a guy with experience (how cool is that!!!) to head the project!!
There is hope for us, after all!!

It is an enduring testimony to the resilience of civilization, while it had had it share of disasters, it has withstood wars and fires, and is always rebuilt anew. A living tribute to what is best in humanity.
