A bientôt,

Anglais (traduction automatique) Hello, and thank you for coming to visit me!
I live in the south of France, in the Tarn. I have always been passionate about images, especially photography (ah, black and white film ...).
For a few years, I created images with 3D software: Poser of course (Poser4 at the start ...), Cinema4D, Vue. You can see some of these images at the start of my gallery on Renderosity.
Then, with age and fatigue helping, I returned to my first graphic love: photography.
I especially like to show what is not always considered interesting: insects, animals that we meet without seeing them, and if possible to make a portrait of them that we enjoy seeing.
I also really like the architecture, especially religious, that I discover during my rare travels
My partner Danielle is also present on Renderosity, under the pseudo of Leije

Like you, I am not religious, but I do love going into old churches such as Notre-Dame. I too think about the people who were responsible for their construction and marvel at their work with not much more than hammers, chisels, and ropes and pulleys.
The news about the fire was so awful, such dreadful news. To think how much this magnificent architectural marvel has survived, who would have dreamed that this would be the cathedral's destiny. Fortunately many valuable artefacts and religious articles had been removed even before the restoration project commenced, and while there was a raging fire, firemen were able to rescue many important items such as the relics....so not all is lost. The bell towers were not damaged and apparently most of the stained-glass windows, such as the Rose Windows, have survived. And she still stands. Notre Dame is a World Heritage site, so I am confident that the rebuilding will commence in short order. I hope that wooden parts that have been partially destroyed are reused to build perhaps small alters, etc. I am so grateful that I have been fortunate enough to have visited her.

I agree with you JC. I keep hoping it's a nightmare and I will wake up.

I for one are very saddened by the tragic loss of this most amazing structure that took 200 years to complete. So many artifacts that could not be saved. I heard they did save the thorn crown worn by our savior. My heart goes out to all the great people of France. Truly one of the worst disasters for such a historic place. I only hope they can rebuild this amazing and most beautiful places ever made by mankind. Makes me sick on what was lost my friend.

I do understand your feelings, because also I love the past. The Notre Dame says already "the lady of us", I have seen many times visiting Paris. Although she was pour renovated, because there was no money and kept standing, because of the hunchback of the Notre Dame movie will get her renovation now. It might have a 20th century look, but is a heritage of us all. Like the Sagra Familia in Barcelona, she is not thought out of our minds visiting the metropole of our believe and view.

So sad to see the destruction of Notre Dame Cathedral. It was such an iconic landmark. I hope some find encouragement in your President Macron's vow that it will be built again. I am a Christian believer--though not Catholic--but I feel as you do, Jean-Claude, that when we visit these constructions, the realization of the knowledge, determination, skill, and creativity the designers and builders had is staggering and inspiring. They connect us with our past in a most positive way.
My deepest condolences to the people of France for the loss of this magnificent edifice.

A horrible event. I hope that it will be a lesson to protect historical temples and structures from disasters and fires. Notre Dame it is an amazing cathedral and the first site I visited in Paris. Unforgettable! Your photo of Albi Cathedral is beautiful!

it is a horrible that this accident has largely destroyed such a beautiful cathedral

It is terribly sad at what has happened to that beautiful centuries old church in Paris! Could it be terrorists? I hope not! Great pictures, Jean!
Jean_C
For now, the investigators think it was an accidental fire. There were no surveillance cameras of the frame, no fire doors .... otherwise, firefighters could have limited the damage. Even today, there are doubts about the fact that the vault does not collapse ... :(

I agree with goldie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The light on this is really beautiful.

Renovation work is always a danger for a building like this and no one can protect it for sure and for eternity, I hope they can rebuild the celèbre Notre-Dame de Paris again! Beautiful capture of Albi Cathédrale btw. !

It's a tragedy the fire in the beautiful cathedral of Paris! Thank you for your wonderful participation!

I go to old churches to see the beauty and workmanship. if reading between the lines means anything, there maybe terrorism involved. a "teacher" went to a large old church I believe in NYC and had gasoline, lighter fluid with lighters. luckily the security guard turned him away.

Last year, I saw Notre Dame de Paris with my own eyes. It's really sad. But also a new beginning, because in times of need, people will move together and work towards a common goal, namely to rebuild this wonderful church. Wonderful capture, Jean-Claude.

Gorgeous photo of this magnificent structure! Thanks for sharing this view! I too am greatly saddened at the current fate of the Cathedral Notre Dame! I share you views about the beauty and love that went into the construction of all these ancient and magnificent creations from the hands of man.
