Cool shot... like that it's B&W...

Thanks Dan. Even though I was just using a point-and-shoot 35mm back then, it seems like a lost art. Or maybe I just miss those carefree days.

A lovely shot. Wes! It does have that classic look of an old B&W print from the archives of a museum.

I like old b/w photos. Until the 60s b/w camera film was cheaper than colour - and produced some splendid images.

I need to get back into b/w film photography. They say converting from color photos isn't the same, and after going through more of my old pics, I agree.

I don't know if this is one of the early digital cameras, or a film camera (much more common in 1993, for sure), but it sure feels like film. And in addition to b-and-w right out of the camera---which, as you imply, is more natural than converting color to b-and-w---film adds its own softness and glow. I know this region so well, I worked there and commuted there every day, years back, and you got the feel of it down pat. Fine crop and composition and angles. And though it may have been sunny, that day, somehow the luminous gray here feels like a gray day in ol' Chitown, with a crammed street and lots of gray skies above. A real urban america shot, and a real chicago shot. And, as Rod implies, with older cars, this could be from 1930, even earlier.

Thank you for your comments, Anahata. As soon as I find myself on better financial footing, I'm getting a new film camera just for B&W (dedicated B&W digitals are WAY out of my price range). And yes, this pic was shot with B&W film. Posting these old B&Ws made me realize some brands offer better contrast than others (I'm thinking Fuji film, but it being so long ago I could be wrong).
