Description

Myst craned her neck skyward, feeling the frozen flakes land on her face and melt, giggling like a child at the strange and wonderful new sensation. “What is this?” she cooed, bringing her eyes down to see Mykal leaning against the wall near the boarding house entrance with his arms crossed and an amused smile plastered on his face. “It’s snow,” he chuckled, more than a little envious of how common day things were such a delight to her. Having lived her whole life deep in the Underdark, the concept of weather was wholly new to her. She’d sat by the window in awe last week when a storm raged outside; first being terrified by the thunder and lightning, then watching in complete fascination. “It’s what happens to rain when it gets cold enough. You’ll see a lot of it in the next couple of months.” “It’s a lot prettier than rain… and more fun,” she declared as she shook the flakes from her hair, while watching children on the adjacent decks rush out of their homes and begin a snowball battle that ranged over several levels of the tree borne town, before following him inside. Since their reconciliation, both Keya and Hacathra had been somewhat occupied getting reacquainted, but the mood at the boarding house had lightened considerable, even if the staff still seemed to look down on the pair… and continued to treat Myst with thinly veiled hostility whenever they caught her alone. Unlocking his room and pushing the door open for her to enter, Mykal paused for a moment in the threshold, then, looking to the shadow cloaked end of the hallway, he challenged; “Are you just going to loiter there all night, or do you want something?” Myst peered back around the doorframe just in time to see a female wood elf step forward into view, the shadows seeming to cling to her black leather armor for just an instant as she scowled at the pair; “I heard that you were consorting with a half-drow now… what, you couldn’t find a dwarf, a half-orc or tiefling?” “Is there a reason you’re here, cousin, or did you just feel compelled to insult me and my companion?” he snarled, the bite in his voice making it clear that he wouldn’t brook any more of her slurs. “You didn’t report to the Elders when you returned,” she stated accusingly, but continued to eye Myst coldly while approaching them, then turned her attention back to him as she added; “My father sent me to learn what you saw in the deep wood.” “I don’t serve your Elders! Your father, and the rest of your house, made it clear that while I bare the Audark name to honor my father, I’m not welcome amongst you,” he snapped with a cold edge to his voice that clearly spoke of past conflicts. Then he took a deep breath to settle himself and continued: “But I’ve seen things that should be known.” Turning his back on her, he ushered Myst inside the room, but left the door open for the wood elf to follow… a minimal gesture of invitation, but all that he could muster at the moment as he banked down his anger.
