Description
So if you want my address it's number one at the end of the bar
Where I sit with the broken angels clutching at straws and nursing our scars
Blame it on me, blame it on me,
Sugar mice in the rain, your daddy took a raincheck
Songwriters: Derek William Dick / Mark Kelly / Ian Mosley / Steve Rothery / Pete Trewavas
Performed by Marillion, on the "Clutching at Straws" album
Torch has reached the bottom and looks back on his life. What he's lost and what could have been. The final track of the album contains an incredible guitar solo by Steve Rothery that fully encompasses the character's despair and regret. Derek William Dick (Fish) exits the band on a lyrical high note, channeling his inner demons into this catharsis.
The ghosts of what could have been haunt Torch and all he can do is drink to escape them.
I have been wanting to revisit "Spread Your Wings" for the longest time. I was happy with how that image turned out, but unhappy with the resolution I rendered it in. I just couldn't find the energy to spend trying to recreate the happy accidents that caused it, so I took a different direction.
"Clutching at Straws" has been one of my favorite albums for decades. This image has always been bouncing around in my head, but I just couldn't figure out how to get it out. The two trains of thoughts intersected and this is the result.

Wonderful work on this scene and render. Whatever was your thought process, it created an interesting image. One can feel the despair he is feeling.
