Description
Njinga (or Nzinga) Mbande was a 17th-century queen of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms in modern day Angola. A remarkable steswoman and warrior, Njinga was intelligent, driven and occassionally ruthless. She successfully fought for the freedom of her kingdoms against the Portuguese over several decades and is remembered today for her political and diplomatic acumen, as well as her brilliant military tactics.
