Amazing, still one left. i don't think any exist in my city. Such a shame mobile phones caused this. Not everyone owns a cell phone and might need to make a call from.a land line.

Reminds me of an old payphone at an Evanston gas station some 10-15 years back. Like Eekdog said, not everyone has a cell; and what if someone loses theirs and needs to make an emergency call.
Maybe old age jadedness (late 40s) is kicking in, but life seemed easier before the Internet and mobile...

the owners of the pay phones caused their own demise from charging outrageous prices. the last time I used a pay phone they wanted $2 to call across the street because the area code changed. I went bought my first cell phone

There was one in the town square but it's long gone. Even the emergency phones on the highways are disappearing. Nice capture.

Neat photo. I saw a black rotary dial phone in a antique store recently. I picked it up and it felt like 10 pounds. I dialed the number we had when I was a child. The sound of the dialing sent me back to the 50's. The price tag was $56.00.
