Description

Guess who was a little anxious to show off their new car? Best place to show it off was in the middle of some Ancient Ruins (Andrey Pestryakov). Makes the design of the car look quite modern-ish. It's 3DClassics' 2CV. A very creditable model. On opening in DAZ it seemed to be too big, so I exported the OBJ file, and discovered the length was 5355mm instead of the actual of 3860 mm. The height and width were equally overscale, so it was a simple job to scale the model to 72% of original. The model is very good. The only glaring error I have seen is the lack of a filler cap on the starboard rear wing. And that is a small thing that only an owner would notice. I may try adding a morph to get the steering wheel on the correct side. I also want to investigate making the front wheel arches dirty, and black. It may involve creating another skin inside the wheel arches so a different material could be applied. Then there's the missing exhaust pipe. I know it was only 25mm in diameter, but the engine power that it had to cope with....

Nice! Lots of render of this car here. You should let 3DClassics know about the things missing. He had asked for feedback on the model on a post a week or 2 back.

You don't need to export to OBJ to find the dimension. You can do it with Daz itself. There is a script. If you need that script, you can message me.

As for the wheel arches, in Octane I would probably just create a mask for them and then use the mix materials to shade them differently. But, I am not sure if in Daz IRAY can you do that or not.

Thanks Rajib.

I will contact Alain.

As for doing something about colouring the inside of the wheel arches in IRay. It may be possible for someone to do it, but I know at my state of knowledge of Studio, I cannot. The documentation for DS is catastrophically poor given the capability of the program. Seems to be endemic in software houses at the moment. I am trying to create my own programs with Embarcadero C++ Builder 10.3. The documentation is so awful I have to go back to Borland's C++ Builder 4 help files to find out how to use the various libraries because Embarcadero say they have no information. Complete drivel.

72% ? I thought that 80% was the right size if you have a character next to the car...that's what I told Alain/3D classics. As to the rest I didn't notice but you're right making the front wheel arches dirty would be great. The driving wheel is on the right side...I mean correct...Lol !!!

As the model seems to be 5355mm long, and the real thing 3860mm, then 3860/5355 = 0.7208, ie 72%. It doesn't look too bad at 80%, in fact that was my first trial, but then I went to the garage to see what proportion I was compared to our Charlie, felt the figure should have been bigger, and as a result of that I decided to check the model vertices rather than guess any more. I'm an engineer, and don't like guessing if I don't have to.

As for the steering wheel side. My father was in a LH drive van in an accident, and that saved his life. [Had he been in a RH drive van, he would have been crushed when the car coming the other way lost control and hit the van corner to corner at a closing speed of 100mph (160kmh).] In the UK we just like to do things the way that suits us rather than simply follow everyone else, which is why we like the steering wheel on the right hand side of the vehicle.

Interesting image! If you create a right hand drive model, don't forget to modify the registration!
