Description

Hello again everyone! Wanted to show you the finalized coastal water module of my water project, with the clear tropical shading preset. The modular approach paid off as I was able to add proper realistic shore sea foam in case one may want to render beach scenes or similar. So here are some (better) example renders with the last pass I made to the water. Apart from some shading variations in terms of color and water transparency, I intend to make a deep sea choppy water geometry surface with random non directional waves as well as a nice and hopefully realistic stormy sea. Since now the basic shading and rendering set-up structure is done, I expect the rest of the project to go at a faster pace. As you may realize, I am aiming to create the most realistic ocean water I can (that can be done with Iray anyway) and not going to rush anything that will be detrimental to visual quality, thus trying to overcome my own personal water rendering frustrations and achieve my long desired expectations as well. Hope you like the final look and as always, any kind of feedback and constructive critique is most welcomed.

This is just mind blowing!! The best IRAY-Ocean, I've ever seen. How often I wanted to make a Beach scene and rejected it again just because the water looked so unreal and cartoonish. Either you get a good water just like a pond or if you need waves and foam it looks unreal. So you broke the frustration barrier and achieved a stunning result. Wow! Looking forward to your progresses! One hint: the only thing that differs from reality, is that the horizont isn't a straight line and shows bumps and waves, which wouldn't be visible in the far distance. So possibly you need to enlarge the oceans size, so the bumps dissapear in distance.

First off, thank you so much for the enthusiastic comments. Regarding the water size, I designed it in a modular fashion so that it will be able to cover a variety of uses. This particular coastal water module consists of a seamless 20x20m geometry tile. So basically, one can add as many tiles are practically required for a particular shot. According to my tests, one will not need more than 4 or 6 tiles in a shot. The boat renders above use 5, due to the fact that the camera has a diagonal orientation Strait horizon lines appear if the viewing angle is set high enough or if the water is quite calm. A practical workaround would be to lower the height of the waves of distant tiles, which is easily possible, if just a straight render is desired or, what I would recommend, is making it a blurred straight line in post so that render times will not be unnecessarily long. The deep sea and stormy ocean tiles will be definitely larger as they will be intended for wider or more distant shots. Thank you for the hint though, I am trying to cover all possible rendering scenarios and make this as realistic as I can.

Wow, that looks great!
Even at full size, it can be taken for real photographs. You did an incredible job here.
