Description

Steve knocked on the door. His stomach twisted. He hadn’t seen Carla in months. They were still married. He still loved her, but he couldn’t live with her and watch her drink herself to death. He’d moved out after their daughter’s death, but he wouldn’t divorce her. “Steve?” Carla smiled when she answered the door. “It’s good to see you,” he said. “Come in.” “Carla, we need to talk. Are you sober?” “Yes.” She frowned. “Are you really?” “Steve, I’ve never lied to you about my drinking. I am completely sober.” She led him to the living room to sit. “I’ve been too busy thinking about this crazy dream to drink.” “What dream?” Steve asked. “I dreamt Andy’s girlfriend, Ann, wanted us to come for their wedding only instead of calling on the phone she was somehow in my mirror.” “Carla, that wasn’t a dream.” “Don’t be absurd. People don’t show up in other people’s mirrors.” “Carla, I saw it too. That’s why I’m here. After she talked to you, she talked to me. I came to see if you’d seen her too so I’d know I wasn’t crazy and also to let you know you weren’t either.” “You really saw her too?” “Yes.” Steve nodded. “I already got us plane tickets to Chicago.” “What about passports?” “She said we don’t need them. But we’ll take them just in case. They both should be good. “She also asked me to tell you it’s best not to wear shorts or short skirts. She said pants or long skirts would be better,” he added. “But it’s July.” She protested. “We don’t know the weather there. It could be cold. Besides, she said the maids freak out.” “Maids?” Carla frowned. “She didn’t tell you that either? I think she was trying to avoid telling me too, but her uncle pressured her. Her parents are the king and queen. Andy’s marrying a princess.” “Okay, now you’re messing with me.” Carla frowned. “No, she said that. She said we’d stay in the palace while we’re there and her parents are the king and queen.” “Steve, this is crazy.” “You don’t want to go?” “You’ve been saying I’m crazy for years. But I am not crazy enough to risk missing our son’s wedding.”

Great story and illustration. How will they react when they hear their son is marrying a dragon? (don't tell) Well done, RP!

Lots. I don't know the conversion but it's plenty. He's not the wealthiest one in the story though. Few realize it, but Nim has the most money.
