Description
As it's the eve of Armistice Day, I'm sharing a render inspired by the infamous Cockburn-Lange photographs of WWI biplanes locked in aerial dogfights. The photos, some of the most thrilling ever taken of fighter planes and certainly among the most iconic of WWI photos, were actually a hoax. (You can read up on them elsewhere). They may have been fakes, but they certainly seemed authentic to millions of people worldwide, including many who knew far more about vintage airplanes than I do. They are exciting, well-composed, and excel in storytelling.
Rather than try and copy one of them exactly, I used the old Steam Dragon fantasy airship model instead of a biplane.
Post-processing in GIMP.

Excuse my french, but this is f#cking awesome! I can almost hear the propellers and steam engines roar and sear like wild dragons on a rampage! Love the sense of depth and the fact that - like the old WWI biplanes - the dragonships are reaaally damn close to each other. I can only guess what adrenalin rushes the pilots back then had when they engaged in combat.
Arranging these huge vessels must have been quite a task, respects for achieving such an epic scene!
Damn, now I want to go back to the old Combat Flight Sim days and let some machine guns roar... good times, Dan! Wonderful scene!

Wonderful POV to the scene of all those Dragon flying airships. Does remind me of the WWII aireal photos I have seen before. Makes for a dramatic scene and makes you wonder how many of those in the airships will come back alive....
