After the movie was over, the two boys sat watching the credits, still holding hands. By the time the credits were over, the theatre was cleared out. They walked slowly to Mike's car. Landon's mom had dropped him off, and he told her he'd call her when the movie ended. "Do you need a ride home?" Mike asked. "I'm supposed to call my mom for a ride," Landon said. "Do you have to be somewhere?" Mike queried. "No, I was just gonna do homework. Why?" "Wanna go for a ride?" "Sure!" The two boys got into Mike's car and Mike turned out toward the country. Mike told Landon that he witnessed his attack the week before, and that he'd been the one to jump the hoods who'd attacked him, and held them until the cops arrived. Landon hadn't been aware of anything, because he was unconscious when the ambulance took him to the hospital. Mike told him that it was after that moment, that he realized that he had feelings for Landon. He just wasn't sure how he was going to tell him, and then he had the idea to meet him at the movies. Landon was floored by Mike's admission. He thanked him for saving him from what would surely have been a much worse fate, and told Mike that he'd had a crush on him for years, but that he respected Mike too much, thinking he was straight, to ever say anything. Mike smiled at Landon, and said, "Well, now you can say whatever you want." Landon called his mom and told her that he and Mike were going to hang out for awhile, now that the movie was over, and that he'd call her later.
