Remember that on the night Lochan died the captain went out on his upper floor balcony and came back in holding what looked like a smart phone. Aram has the phone and displaying a picture taken by moonlight looking down from the captain’s lookout. It is shocking. Lochan is slumped over leaning against the rowboat. Ryan is holding the spear preparing to strike Lochan’s body. Taylor stands by looking dismayed but doing nothing to intervene. The story as told by Taylor is that when they found Loghan he was most likely dead of a drug overdose. The ensuing investigation and publicity was most likely to reveal the sales at the inn. So Ryan suggested making it look like a murder which would at least create confusion. After all, several people had seen the captain threaten Lochan with the spear and story had gone around town. So he told Taylor to hand him the spear which was still there on the captain’s porch. He used it to stab Lochan’s body as Taylor looked on horrified. But it was too dark to see if it looked like a real attack. Ryan then hid the spear where he could ‘find’ it th´ nest morning. Really very stupid, but then most improvised crimes are stupid.
