Description

This is the product image for my freebie "balance beam". After having made the previous gymnast, I couldn't help but be painfully aware that the balance beam I quickly made looked weak. I made it based on my recollection of other models I had seen. So I went back, looked up real balance beams, checked the specification of them, and recreated a more realistic beam. At the same time, I wanted to play with my leotard UV template to make a texture beyond a uniform color. I can see I have a lot to learn about shaders, in general, and superfly shaders, specifically :) I'm still happy how the leotard moves. The time with JCMs was worth it. There was only the most minor poke through at the arm ends (because I wanted very long sleeves). The body, including hips, hugs like a dream.

Very nice work on modelling the balancing beam and creating the new textures for the leotard. They look very good.

Thank you ^.^ In the words of Yoda: much to learn have I. I've been using the freebie "Hexagon" from Daz for years. But mostly to mess with existing meshes. Only recently have I learned full-on "from scratch" modeling and UV Mapping. Turns out to be easier than I had supposed and I kick myself for not learning sooner :D

By easier, I mean to use the tool(s). It's helpful that Poser 11 Pro actually has a lot of features fixed/tuned to make things easier. But, to actually craft good and/or complex stuff, experience is what I need. Thus, image goals and some degree of making stuff for my own images. And posting the good bits here, to share :)

Maybe uneven bars and floor mats will be next...

I think I need a bump map and some detailing on the leotard. It's always something more :D
