Description
So many years have passed but its image still lingers in my mind. The red railway bridge across the river Khanaut in a far off village where I spent my childhood. The village was Lodhipur nestled on the outskirts of a small town in Uttar Pradesh.
I was then 10 yrs old. I used to run across the sugarcane fields with my dog Jimmy to see the red bridge. Whenever a train used to cross I waved at the passengers as if they were expecting me there. The train made a strange gurgling noise as it crossed the bridge and then it passed out of sight . Jimmy used to wave his tail and we were both thrilled to see the train whistling away.
Sometimes I think the red railway bridge is calling me. Telling me to come and meet before it gets old and crumbles down. I promise it that I will but I don't know whether I would be able to keep the promise. I am also getting old my friend. Everything vanishes in the end.
