Just mucking about with some bits and bobs.... and old character with a colourful past I've used in many of my Sci-fi renders, and another appearance for Herminio Nieves's wonderful "Fury" shuttle.
...though she's a little nonplussed at the moment, finding herself on a seemingly barren alien world, the story is just beginning....

Like the lighting - the highlight on the nose of the ship as well as on the stairs. The alien whatsits are a bit difficult to tell apart.

Yes, the shadow of the shuttle is a little too deep; I did try a couple of versions with more fill-in light, but the image lost too much contrast and punch. I'll do some more iterations and see where i get to... maybe some low level accent lighting to pick out the alien topogrphy.

I agree with RRun comment. I am not sure how you are getting such a hard shadow with the soft lighting you seem to be using. One thing to try to get a bit more of the details shown is to increase the diffuse power or lower the gamma of the texture to make it lighter hence more visible. Also add a bit of sheen with roughness added. That brings out details even in dark areas.

Thanks for the suggestions Rajib. I've 2 opposing directional lights in pink and purple as the main sources, to reflect the light in the sky. The pink one casts the shadows, there's also a white spotlight for the light coming out of the lower hatch and a blue point light in the cabin for instrument panel glow. I don't want to loose the shadow too much though; the idea is to have it so you don't quite know whats lurking in there, so I'll try some iterations playing with diffuse and gamma settings, as well as looking at the lighting angle and shadow placement...
