Description

The first organ of this cathedral was built in the 16th century. It was then probably the greatest organ of Christendom. At the beginning of the XVIIIth century, this primitive organ was very degraded. The archbishop of Albi decides to remake it again. This work is entrusted to Christophe Moucherel, an organ builder, and the organ is completed in 1736. Le premier orgue de cette cathédrale avait été réalisé au XVIème siècle. Il était alors probablement le plus grand orgue de la chrétienté. Au début du XVIIIème siècle, cet orgue primitif était très dégradé. L'archevêque d'Albi décide de le refaire à neuf. Ce travail est confié à Christophe Moucherel, un facteur d'orgues de génie, et l'orgue est achevé en 1736. Link to my preceeding image:
