Description
'Antar, or 'Antarah ibn Shaddad (525-608), was an Arab knight and poet of partly Ethiopian descent. He was famed for his poetry, prowess and adventurous life. The account of his life and the wooing of his love, 'Abla, forms the basis of the lengthy romance "Antar wa 'Abla", which is still commonly recounted by storytellers to this day.
His story has become a central one in the folklore of the Middle-East, much like the stories of King Arthur have in Western Europe (though perhaps more rooted in historical fact, given that some of his own writings survive). The story has also influenced western literature, art and music (for example Rimsky-Korsakov's 2nd symphony is based on the tale), and Antar's own body of poetry has been published in several languages.
For this render, 'Antar's outfit is Daz's "Moroccan Dreams" using the "Amal" mats. The Shield is using a bump map of my own creation based on pre-Islamic Arabian motifs. 'Abla is wearing stuff form several different sets and bits of dynamic cloth, all with customised mats... Mostly "Gypsy Love"! though.
