Description
A United States Army band (soldiers from the north, that is) performing at a Civil War reenactment held in a park somewhere in beautiful Long Beach, California, back on 7/31/2010.
I don't recall them playing "Dixie." anahata.c should like this.
I still have tons of pics of that event vegetating in my files.

Yes, I do like this---and I remember this series from way back (I missed it!) Big open, round circle of brass players, with a big bass drum player behind them. And they're so into their playing, and look so much like musicians---that is, they look like they're totally play-acting at being soldiers, they have no formal posture, no "at-attention" pose (which military bands almost always have): They're musicians, forced to wear their costumes 'cause it's part of the job, and it wouldn't matter if they were wearing clown outfits: They have a job to do, no matter what they're wearing. (So true to musicians!) The tuba player---3d from the left---looks the part: He's the heftiest dude there. (Tubas are hefty.) You got lots of space in this, and lots of deep yellow light---very well lit, Harry, with illumined trees in the background. And, as for their not playing "Dixie"---if they're a northern band, I assume "Dixie" would be a no-no during the war. ("You playin' that Rebel song, son??? Well, stop!!!") Delightful shot, and as real as it gets.
