Description

So I purchased a new dForce hair for my character Aryll, and thought to give it a try. I'm super happy with how it looks, and also happy that I found a dForce hair that I like. I did this little image to test it. This is actually the second render I've done because I encountered a real problem. The horse mane. Put in the forefront, it is so sharply less detailed than the rest of the image, it's painful. It was even worse in the first render, but i went back and applied some different shaders to try and make it better. Looking it over, I notice that it's a pretty sparse mesh overall, especially compared to hair meshes I've grown used to. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any alternative. The Hivewire horse (This is the Fresian model) is superior to the Daz Horse 2, no doubt about it. However, I'd really LOVE an updated hair set for it. Daz Horse 2 has updated sets, but I just don't like working with it. Especially on account that it doesn't have much in the way of actual breeds - just different color patterns. (I could be wrong. It's so hard to find anything in the Daz catalog!) Doing a search, the only thing I can find are some photoshop files meant to be layered in for better hair. This rather limits the pose-ability, if you ask me. Considering all the wonderful hair meshes available for humanoid characters, I would hope for there to be SOMETHING updated for this wonderful horse model. Obviously I'm not too concerned with render times - I need better hair! Any ideas?

A lovely scene. I hope Daz releases dForce hair for the Daz Horse. Just saw they added it for the cat. So hopefully one of these days....

You can try applying the hair texture diffuse map and bump map (from an actual character hair). Just tile it horizontally and use the transparency map that came with the horse mane. That should give you better results.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

For the mane, possibly try strand hair. You can do it with DS4.11. I have tried to do it myself, and really only managed to get the simplest style, a Mohican, to work. And what is a mane other than a Mohican? You could try it out.

The rest of the picture is pretty impressive, otherwise.
