Description
A significant number of the 427 Cobras were actually equipped with the 2 x 4V 428 Cobra Le Mans engines instead of the 427 Side Oilers. The Cobra's 428 Cobra Le Mans engine is almost identical to the one installed in the 1967 Shelby GT500's and for several years after Cobra production ended, Shelby American sold the leftovers as crate engines. Originality is not really a factor in the value of original Cobras, so most of their owners have at some point swapped out the original motors.

One of my favorite cars to put in my images and one of my favorite cars all time, period!!! Nice little tidbit I did not know! Love the image and the interesting color you chose for the car.

I saw a gold original Cobra many years ago when the owners still drove them. I believe it was at the the SAAC 3 convention in 1978 at the Pasadena Hilton. I pulled out the hilariously bad photos I took at the time in the dark parking garage with a very poor quality Kodak Instamatic, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, while it is doubtful the gold paint was how it left the "factory", gold was a popular color for cars between 67 and 70. I did not want to show just another blue, red, or white 427SC Cobra, so I went with a gold street version without hood scoop and driver's roll hoop. It is hard to believe it's been over 40 years.
