Description

There is something about this shot that reminds me of Chip Howell and his works here at Renderosity. His imagery and writing. There is the lighting of coarse, an urban night awash in a the unique mixing of technologies - sodium, neon, LED and the waning incandescent - colours both murky and crisp. There's the environment, heavy in moisture yet dry as city cement. For it was a hot and restless night with no relief from the clingy heat that invaded even the air conditioned confines of the tram. Ah yes, a merciful cool breeze did grace me from the streetcar as I passed. And there is the unused rail switch, a branch off from the mainline to lesser known tracks and a darker part of the city. A place of old names, not on the official maps where myths are still real. I highly recommend a visit to Chip's gallery. And I have found them inspiring for my own works here. He's been on a partial hiatus for now but I look forward to all of his new postings. Cheers, my friend. As mentioned, I took this shot on a hot summer evening in downtown Toronto. A restless one. I was walking north along Victoria Street - to collect my steak sandwich from Fran's - when I happened upon Red Rocket 4421, stopped, picking up passengers. She is traveling eastbound on the Queen Line (Route 501) and will short turn at Kingston Road at the western edge of the Beaches District. With a 1/30 sec exposure (and a stationary vehicle) I finally revealed the LED designation display. And, for the first time, I am attracted to its amber glow over the back lit white on black roll signs which they replaced. A shame that it will never work in the daytime. In the background is a Tim Horton's coffee (and doughnut) shop. In Canada - since 1964 - with camera aimed horizontally, there is a one (1) in three (3) probability of capturing a Tim Horton's somewhere between the foreground and background. NOTES: TTC: Toronto Transit Commission LFLRV: Low Floor Light Rail Vehicle LED: Light Emitting Diode Fran's: An excellent restaurant chain in Downtown Toronto Red Rocket: Popular name for Toronto streetcars

Great shot and interesting writing. You've captured a woman that appears to be staring right at you as you took this photo

Indeed this does bring some of Chip's photos to mind. I love night shots, and this is a lovely one indeed! I'm sure Chip will enjoy it as well.
