Description

My First Asset Creation - I wanted to try my hand at creating a 3D asset that I can use like the ones I purchase. So, I found some .OBJ gears and with a lot of trial and error created a 6-gear cluster with applied shaders and was able to create my first "prop". I haven't yet figured out rigging. It would be cool to rig them so you can turn them, but since I'm not in to animation this isn't a real priority for me. What I discovered is people ask stuff in forums, and then folks DON'T answer them. Example: Someone asked how to connect two primitives. Someone else answered simply saying, "You join them together." (Yeah, thanks... like that tells you HOW to join them together.) LOL But, I did glean enough from various tutorials to get so far as to connect these 6 primitive OBJ objects, apply shaders, and then save it as a DAZ .DUF file. WHAHOO! Now, if I will only be able to remember how I did it for the next time. My goal is to create a vault door that is rigged to open/close, and a wheel you can turn that actuates the gears to slide a bolt to lock the door. (While I'm not in to animation, I do think that would be useful for still renders.) The problem is, just doing these gears aggravated my myasthenia gravis to the extent that it knocked me on my butt for two days. However, now that I've recovered from that I'm glad I took the chance and learned something new. P.S. If you know of good tutorials for taking primitives and joining them and rigging them using only DAZ3D and Hexagon, please reply with links to them. :)
