I've been wanting to ride the train into Silverton since my late wife and I saw documentary on it in the late 1980s.

And my current wife has family down below in Durango.

When I was out west, I remember how institutional buildings would sit almost alone in some towns, surrounded by mountains. This seems like one such building (even though I don't know what's on either side of it). Love the sun bleached light, and the crystal-clear decay---over some windows, above the cornice, etc. The face of the mountain (in the background) tells us that this is nestled into some pretty impressive rock! Love when you capture these lone structures in the middle of the vast west...

These old buildings are so cool - especially in surroundings like this. We just got home, and I can't wait to hit the road again..
