Description

The Egyptian Beetle (Neophron percnopterus), sometimes incorrectly called the Egyptian Vulture, is an Old World raptor species found in Africa (around the Sahara, the Maghreb and the southern Sahara), southern Europe (Spain, southern France, Italy, Greece and the Black Sea basin), and Asia (from Turkey to India). It is sometimes called Alimoche (its Spanish name) or Catharte alimoche. In Béarn, it is also called Marie-Blanque (in Béarnese: Maria Blanca), and gave its name to the col de Marie-Blanque, a col in the French Pyrenees located in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64), on the road linking the Aspe valley and the Ossau valley.
