Has been my experience, when a dog gets on in years, they tend to be more observant of their surroundings, noticing those little things that they overlooked previously. So, perhaps because younger dogs are so wrapped up in their own activity, they simply don't take in those little things. Also, JB's hearing is going and she might be relying more on her sight that hearing. Just a thought.
