Contrairement à Blois qui est une construction portant les strates de styles s'étendant sur quatre siècles d'architecture, Cheverny est construit dans un style classique homogène. Il est fait d'un matériau traité en appareil de bossages plats, strié de refends horizontaux, la « pierre de Bourré », un tuffeau originaire de ce village de Loir-et-Cher qui a la particularité de blanchir et durcir en vieillissant, ce qui explique la blancheur de sa façade sud. Celle-ci est ornée de bustes d'empereurs romains. Les toits des pavillons latéraux, sous forme de dômes carrés surmontés de campaniles ajourés, encadrent les hauts toits à la française du corps principal. Unlike Blois, which is a building with layers of styles spanning four centuries of architecture, Cheverny is built in a homogeneous classical style. It is made of a material treated with a flat boss device, streaked with horizontal slits, the "pierre de Bourré", a tufa from this village of Loir-et-Cher which has the particularity of whitening and hardening as it ages, which explains the whiteness of its southern façade. It is decorated with busts of Roman emperors. The roofs of the side pavilions, in the form of square domes topped with openwork belfries, frame the high French roofs of the main body.
