Description
it is unusual to see a 283 Chevrolet V8 since most people install 350 cubic inch engines. especially the original.
according to the owner the engine is the original, but after the last overhaul the cylinder sleeves had to be added because the engine was a tired old girl. he will install a 350ci when she bites the dust
the 57 Chevrolet that I had while in college had a 283 also

As I recall, the 283 for chevies and the 289 for fords were the goto engines off the showroom floors. The kids in later years added the more powerful engines. Nice clean engine and splendid photo.

Great photo of it, Richard! And you could actually get in and work on the engine - look at all that space! Now you can barely fit a screwdriver into the engine compartment, let alone a ratchet!

I'm fairly ignorant of the workings of this beauty, but it makes a big splash of a shot, with the contrast of that saturated red and deep black, and all that reflected light. A pow of a shot. (I worked on an engine years back, but today, you wouldn't want me near one. Your car would chug 2 feet, and collapse...)
