very clever idea - see what you mean. i never tried this but made 2-3 nested spheres of "tea kettle steam". sometimes with grouping and stretching. i encountered the same thing sometimes, note that the cloud texture seems to be a thin film on the surface rather than thru the volume.

Good image Micheal. Maybe another sky to make it more grim ;-)

The smoke looks odd billowing back down from the sides like that. (But for some reason, the way it looks gives me an idea for something to use if I ever render a rock slide. Dunno why that is.) I think the multi-replicated spheres method for smoke looks better. Interesting looking factory. From the title and the image, I'd assume that this factory would like less strict EPA standards. Bleh! Anyhow, it's to the point. If you wanted to make it look more toxic, have another layer just on the water with noxious foam, add some "dead" trees, and perhaps show a fish or two floating on its side in the water. Nuthin' like the smell of dioxin in the morning... L8R!

You excel at these uncluttered scenes with just the right touches in your texturing to make it look very real. Excellent work!
