Description

Le Goura de Victoria est d'une couleur bleu-gris foncé avec un petit masque noir. Sa crête de plumes (la caractéristique propre aux pigeons couronnés autres que leur taille) est d'un blanc éclatant. Sur les ailes se trouve une rangée de plumes d'un bleu-gris plus pâle avec des pointes marron. Ceux-ci forment une barre d'aile distincte. La poitrine est de couleur violet-marron foncé. Comme chez tous les pigeons couronnés, le mélanisme a été observé. Les deux autres pigeons couronnés sont quelque peu semblables superficiellement, mais seul le pigeon couronné de l'ouest chevauche l'espèce Victoria. Le pigeon sacré du Scheepmaker ne le fait pas. Chez les espèces occidentales, la couronne est plus rugueuse et ressemble davantage à du poil, la poitrine est d'un gris bleu uniforme et non marron, et une barre d'aile moins distincte est présente. Les deux sexes sont semblables. The Victoria crowned pigeon is a deep blue-gray color with a small, black mask. Its feather crest (the signature feature of crowned pigeons other than their size) is conspicuously white-tipped. On the wing coverts is a row of feathers that are a paler blue-gray with maroon tips. These form a distinct wing bar. The chest is a deep purple-maroon color. As in all crowned pigeons, melanism has been observed. The other two crowned pigeons are somewhat superficially similar, but only the western crowned pigeon overlaps in range with the Victoria species. The Scheepmaker's crowned pigeon does not. In the western species, the crown is more scraggly and hair-like, the chest is a uniform blue-gray and not maroon, and a less distinct wing-bar is present. Both sexes are similar.
