Description

Andy decided to call his mother first, get it over with. He got along better with his dad. He’d rather end on a high note. “Dad?” He asked surprised. Ann looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. “What are you doing at Mom’s?” “I know she’s still your wife. You just haven’t been there in quite a while. That’s great.” He grinned. ‘They’re getting back together’ he mouthed. Ann smiled. “No, Dad, don’t put me on speakerphone.” He rolled his eyes. “Hi, Mom, how are you doing? We’re both fine. “No, we aren’t staying. We’re just here for a few days to tie up loose ends. “Last night...Because it was almost midnight. I swear this is the first chance I got to call...Because there’s a house full of people. “Mom, it’s been a month, we can’t have a baby in a month...No, she’s not pregnant.” Tylan looked up and mouthed ‘see?’ He nodded. “No, I don’t want to put you on speaker. There’s a house full of people... Ann, Tylan, Emeton, Pt’this, Sapphire, Shunati, Nimitinas and Joanne are all here… Yes, she’s from here. You met her.… Yes, she was there… Ann’s here. She says hi... Of course, she’ll talk to you. “Okay, fine, I’ll put you on speaker.” He covered the mouthpiece a moment. “Everyone watch what you say, my folks can hear you.” He warned. He put them on speaker and everyone greeted them. “Hi, Carla, hi, Steve,” Ann said. “Hi, Ann, how are you?” Carla asked. “I’m good. You?” “We’re both good, but we’re not getting any younger. We’d like to see our grandkids.” “I know. My mom wants to also.” “So where are they?” “We’re working on it.” Ann rolled her eyes but smiled. “Can you come out to Colorado?” Steve asked. “Not this time, sorry, Dad,” Andy said. “We’ll probably only be here are a few days. Ann is supposed to meet with Queen Deyama within the next couple of weeks.” “When can you come out to see us?” Steve pressed. “I don’t know. We’re looking into finding a more direct route. Ann doesn’t like cars. I can’t imagine her in an airplane.” “Nope.” Ann insisted shaking her head. “No planes, I’d rather fly myself.” “You fly on the back of dragons but won’t fly in a plane?” Carla asked. “Dragons don’t have engines to suddenly stop working,” Ann said. “Mom, how are you doing?” Andy asked wanting to change the subject. “I said I’m fine. Why?” “Nim said you ran out of medication and had to come home early. I didn’t even know you were on anything,” he explained. “Take us off speakerphone,” Carla said. “I should have asked that earlier,” he muttered as he switched. “Okay, you’re off.” Andy listened for a moment and then broke out in a big grin. “Okay, Mom, listen, I probably should go and start making dinner. No, we don’t want Ann cooking... I’m not being mean. She can’t cook. She burnt oatmeal. “Okay, bye now. I’ll call again before we leave. Love you too. Bye.” Andy hung up. “So?” Ann asked. “It’s like I said, she’s not on any medication. It was just to give Nim and Jo some time alone.” “Oh, I could’ve told you that,” Tylan said. She looked around to make sure Nim and Jo couldn’t hear before continuing. “We were all talking about what a cute couple they made at the wedding. But, we knew he’d be trying to set a good example for the young ones, plus, he’s so shy. Emeton said when he asked if he could invite her, he was more nervous than when Andy here asked for your hand. So, Queen Deyama offered to bring your parents back if they could come up with an excuse to leave early. Apparently, needing medication was one your grandparents often used.” Andy smiled. “I’d forgotten about that.” “So tell me, what is their relationship?” Tylan asked. “Mother.” Ann rolled her eyes.
