A Pathfinder gnome wields a flying blade. Listed in the 'Gladiator Weapons' section of the Ultimate Combat book for the Pathfinder RPG, the 'flying blade' is a high damage reach weapon that normally suffers a -2 penalty on attacks, but gains a +2 bonus on attacks instead when used in an attack of opportunity provoked by movement. Thus it has its drawbacks when used by most characters, but is perfect for the 'reach caster' style of play (when a character uses their own round's actions to move and cast spells, but wields a reach weapon to make attacks of opportunity against melee characters who try to close with her). The only real difficulty is that the flying blade requires an exotic weapon proficiency to use effectively, usually costing a precious feat. Half-elves can gain such a proficiency by taking the 'Ancestral Arms' alternate racial trait (from the Advanced Player's Guide), gnomes can do so by taking the 'Master Tinker' alternate racial trait and crafting their own flying blade... which is what I like to imagine our little lady here has done... :)
