a monastic scene...from the middle ages (although it could come from now, just in a very old church, monastery, etc). This is an unusual scene from you: It isn't often, in my memory, that we get a gothic medieval interior like this...it has all the deep dark shadows those interiors have, and that inimitable feeling that the tracery---all that stone tracery above that contain the arches and such---is like cobwebs from heaven. W/ intense light in the back. (If this is a church, I love that there's stairway back there!) And the mysterious visitor---this is great fodder for a tale. From the look of the man facing us, this stranger must be bearing something very potent. Perfect setting and light and details---and a virgin mary, I assume, in front: reminding the stranger not to try anything sly...Love the mood and feel of this. (The designers of these old gothic spaces luuuuuved shadow, it made the light seem like a gift streaming from above, and heightened the sense of mystery...they wanted the attendees to feel like they were entering the 'mystery of heaven'.)
