Description
"Go on in my dear," Eli said to Glory as he opened the front gates for them. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and then winked at her. "Mi casa es su casa. Good to see you." He watched her walk into the open front door then took Djinn aside. "So. You remembered I made you a promise. I kept it, too - didn't I?" Eli gave him a half-cocked smile and throaty laugh. "And here you thought all was lost when she took up with Dorian. Hardly....let's walk. That put me in motion. I flat out told you I didn't want her with those little boys, didn't I?"
Eli put his arm around Djinn's shoulders and leaned close. "Now I'm going to tell you some of my tricks. How I do things. This doesn't go any further. Number One: I wait until everything starts falling into place. I listen to as much gossip as I can stand and spread it where it counts if it serves a purpose. I watch everything and everyone of any importance and what their situation is. Then I make it all work for me, mi amigo. That's how I did every one of my jobs as a Hunter. You know that. You hunted with me." They slowed their pace, as they came to the corner of the house.
"All I had to do is wait for the right moment to put a bug in one ear that jumped to my sister's ears. I knew she'd start plotting against Glory and for Coco. Dorian is 'somebody' in Rita's eyes. Glory shouldn't have anything like that. For some reason we both know, Rita blames Glory for her own situation...which is utter projection and BS. I knew Glory would leave him given any excuse. She seldom had 'wonderful things' to say and she felt stuck. She never looked at him like she looks at you. Those are the dominos. Watch them fall. Then you got a call from Grace - my daughter - to go see Glory. Hmmmm. See?"
Djinn processed all of that, knowing what Glory had told him went on with Coco and about leaving Dorian, and erupted in a quiet laugh. "Ah, and here I thought you'd given up on me."
"I almost did. You were cured, but never told anyone you were. You were over being stressed and your nightmares. We didn't find out until Dorian pushed you into showing him what-for and not going off on him. THEN WE FOUND OUT as a whole, but Beren happened to mention it to me one day in a conversation. That is to say, I straight out asked him whatever happened with you."
"No one ever asked," Djinn replied. "It was like taboo to talk about it," he shrugged. "So, I just went with it. It gave me a reason to finally dissolve things with 'Dora. Finally." He sighed. "We're together now, me and Glory. That's all that matters. Thank you, Eli."
Eli half bowed to him, smiling. "Thank YOU. She looks very happy. Relaxed. And dare I say it, well satisfied. She always loved you anyway - from the start. We've been sneaky and underhanded, but at this point, I'm alright with it. You?"
"Ahem," Djinn cleared his throat, rolling his eyes and smiling. "Well. Aye. We have. I'd have to say yes. But shouldn't you tell her?"
"I really don't think she cares. She's out of a mistake and with the one she's always wanted to be with. I bet if you asked her, she's got it figured out. I'd have to think about it. You know...wait for a window of opportunity. She's happy. That's all that matters to me," Eli said. He grabbed the handle to the back door and opened it. "Let's go inside. Your grandfather is here."
"Ash?"
"Aye. The other one died back in the Napoleonic Wars. Si? "
"He did. Soon after I was born," Djinn hissed as he smiled. "Oh.... This should be interesting."
