One of the terms I fought in the early 1970's was "jumbo jet" as I put on weight up to 280 lbs. Then came "we are a transportation company" that harked to "transportation specials" in used car lots at the back. The promise was great, more room, easy access to an aisle and even filet cooked onboard. Four engines for transoceanic travel seemed certain to continue until engine reliability of the big fans allowed for single engine performance of a twin that could reach remote divert fields. ETOPS? was that the term?
