This is Scotty’s big moment. His play about the Miami Mafia is being put on in a suburb of London. This is the dress rehearsal. The showgirl on his arm is Lydia who comes from a town in the Cotswalds but has just moved to London where she has taken a job as social secretary at a nearby mansion where her brother, a police detective, also lives/ She is taking part in the play for the fun of it. We might add that Scotty is an American millionaire and a gun collector. So this is not a conventional theatrical venture. Lydia is playing the part of a showgirl who is a girl friend of the Mafia boss played by Scotty. Now Scotty’s wife Paulette is also appearing as a showgirl and the girl friend of a rival Mafia boss. Curious, you might way. But if you have been following the story you would be aware of several on-going disputes roiling the relationship between Scotty and Paulette.
