The tree is an excellent choice of subject. You are in a place with tons of spectacular looking rock formations, and you have chosen to photograph something completely different, but nonetheless very interesting to look at.

That said, there are some crazy rock formations going on on the extreme right of the photo. This is not, supposed to be a photo of rock formations, but rather of this really gnarly looking tree, so I would have liked to see you look for a way to remove the distracting rocks. One option might be to just to crop them out (which would shift the tree further to the right, altering the balance of the composition, but I tried covering the rightmost fifth or so of the photo with my hand and concluded that it still looked good).
