new homes about 50 feet or less from railroad tracks. I wonder why the powers to be approved such stupidity and disregard for human life

There are railroad tracks running about 30-40 feet behind my apartment building. Literally just outside my kitchen door. There are at least a half-dozen or more trains daily, the building shakes. I open my windows for cool air in the summer and it sounds like the train is coming THROUGH the apartment, especially when they blow the whistle!!! If I had known, I never would have moved in here. I didn't notice the tracks before I moved in because there is a line of evergreen trees along the back edge of the property. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Where i worked they where at spitting distance. And then there are the high pressure gaz lines and other (NATO pipeline) under our feet. Nice shot.

I am 200 meters away (about 600 feet) from railways; safe enough for me! But I am seeing new apartment building constructions, within 20 meters (60 feet) away from these same tracks. It seems to be a new trend. Great shot!

I went to college on a campus divided by train tracks, I actually used to like to see and hear the sound of the trains as they sounded their horns going through the crossing. Then again I was young and it was only four nights a week, today well I wouldn't be such a fan. I live in a rural area now that the birds and cows are the biggest noise most the time. But I do live under the flight path the rescue helicopter takes to the hospital in the city. They are required to fly low for medical reasons and so I am sometimes awoken by the sound of a Sikorsky S-92 rescue helicopter that rattles the tiles a little but, who could object to that. It’s nice to be reminded there are people out there watching out for us while I sleep, like guardian angels flying over.

I do love watching trains....But..... I wouldn't want to live that close to a major rail thoroughfare. There are three tracks here, which tells me it's busy day and night with trains hauling God knows what. All it takes is one derailment with tankers full of dangerous chemicals....
There are a couple places here in Independence where tracks are literally in peoples' back yard..

actually there are 4 tracks with 2 straight thru and 2 side rails for temporary storage and staging

At Rock park in Urban, IL the tracks are less than 25 feet from the traiilors. The L in Chicago...
